Birds at Play in Giclée Print by Michelle Morris

This delightful scene was originally painted using watercolours on rice paper. Rice paper, also known as Xuan paper is traditionally used for calligraphy and sumi painting. Made out of plant fibres, its delicate texture deceives its ability to absorb ink, creating blurry images. I thoroughly enjoyed painting this piece which features a graceful flower from a Chinese pictorial wallpaper at Chatsworth House, Derbyshire commissioned for the sixth Duke of Devonshire in 1830.
